Greenpeace apologizes for paratrooper on field: ‘Not the intention’

It was a remarkable picture last night. A paratrooper with a motorbike on his back flew into the Munich stadium, appeared to hit a cable, skimmed across the field and then landed with a taste.

The footage was not broadcast on television, but fans in the stadium filmed the action and posted it on social media:

The man’s parachute read ‘Kick out oil’, with the Greenpeace logo underneath. The environmental organization apologizes in a statement for the incident.

Two men in the stadium were injured in the flying incident. According to the German police and UEFA, they were taken to a hospital for further medical treatment. The severity of their injuries is not yet known.

Emergency landing

“Due to a technical malfunction, an emergency landing had to be made,” writes Greenpeace. The German branch of Greenpeace previously announced via Twitter that it was a protest against Volkswagen, one of the sponsors of the European Championship.

The intention was for the paratrooper to throw a ball onto the field and then fly on, using the motor on his back.

However, when the man flew into the stadium, he appeared to hit one of the cables connecting the floating camera above the pitch. As a result, the man would have somewhat lost control and flew right over the audience.

‘Always peaceful and non-violent’

“We hope everyone is okay,” Greenpeace wrote. “This protest was not intended to disrupt the game or injure people. Greenpeace’s actions have always been peaceful and non-violent. Unfortunately, not everything went according to plan with this campaign.”

1-0

After the man landed on the field, some German footballers came to see how the ‘intruder’ was doing. He was then taken away by stewards. France finally defeated Germany met 1-0. Mats Hummels was the schlemiel of the evening, he scored an own goal.
