85% of the local population is opposite The idea of becoming part of the United States, according to a poll conducted by Verian Research Company, on behalf of the National Sermitsiaq newspaper in Greenland and the Berlingske Media in Denmark.
The poll also showed that only 6% of Greenlanders would accept American citizenship if they had to choose between a US or Denmark passport. 9% is undecided.
The poll was based on online interviews conducted between 22 and 27 January between 497 representative citizens in Greenland over the age of 18.

Greenland Prime Minister Mount Mutte has repeatedly opposed such a perspective.
“We don’t want to become Danes. We don’t want to become Americans. We want to be Greenlanders’, He told reporters earlier this month.
Trump thought for the first time to acquire the huge Arctic island and his mineral resources during his first term, but Copenhagen rejected him. Greenland has been a territory of Denmark since 1953 and before it was a colony.
EGENE wishes to hold a referendum that could see the island become independent of Denmark and be free to chart its future.
After his re -election, Trump reiterated his interest in acquiring the Arctic island, which is controlled by Denmark but has a great deal of autonomy.
Speaking to Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said: “Trump is the only one who can do this: ‘I think we’ll get it’ and argued that the 57,000 inhabitants of the Arctic island. The poll, however, does not show that.
