We welcome the Handball Sport Verein Hamburg
General | 02. May 2023
The international break is over and we welcome the Hamburg Handball Sport Club on May 3rd at 7:05 p.m. in the Lübbecke district sports hall.
All six Mindeners, who were selected by their national coaches for their home country, returned safely to Hahler Straße. However, there is no time for the boys to rest from their international trips: the game against Handball Sport Verein Hamburg is already on the agenda for Wednesday, which has played a solid season so far and is therefore in the top half of the league table. But Hamburg aren’t unbeatable either and have dropped points against Stuttgart and Bergische HC in the recent past before beating FRISCH AUF! Göppingen could score twice. While the HSVH in seventh place and eleven points behind in fourth place have more or less written off the international places, everything is at stake for the Green-Whites in this phase of the season. Two additional points on the account would be extremely important for Frank Carstens’ team in the current situation, because the two-point gap to HSG from Wetzlar has not changed over the last few days, which means that the duel between the two teams for the saving 16th place. space is still open.
Frank Carstens says: “Because of the international break, we had to do without many players in the last training sessions, which of course weakened us quite a bit in preparation. That’s why we’ve mainly trained individually over the last few days and worked on finishing and defensive behavior before we were able to do a tactical session with all the players today. The game against HSVH is extremely important for us and of course we want to get a win, whereby we mainly want to come from improved coverage. Hamburg is a team that likes to break through, that has very fast players in Baijens and Axmann and is generally a very well-rehearsed team. Thanks to very good management, Hamburg has developed strongly and is therefore in a highly secured fairway. Even if it’s an English week again and we’re going to play again on Sunday, the full focus is on Hamburg, where we’ll go all-in, because the pressure can’t be much greater. We would be happy if we received the same support as we did against Lemgo and Hamm, because through the connection with the crowd we can mobilize the last grains again.”
Personnel situation: The international break was particularly good for Max Staar, as he was able to continue training during the week and is now back at 100 percent after his muscular problems. Pieczkowski is also making good progress so that he too can play against Hamburg.
Fans: Tickets for the game are still available online, as well as at all known advance booking offices and from 5:30 p.m. at the box office in the hall. The parking situation at the district sports hall remains tense. Here you can find all the information about the available parking spaces. We recommend all fans to use the free fan shuttle at 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. from the KAMPA hall. The drive on Wednesday is supported by GWD partner Klaus Aumann.
