Green: The President is not superior to the Constitutional Court

A bench painted in rainbow colors became a barometer of the debate over the emotions of the concept of family in society. The latter disappeared from the Town Hall Square, LNK Žinios showed.

“Laisviečiai” had announced his search, believing that the bench had been stolen. He later found out what really happened. The bench now looks different – a vandal-broken bench stands in the municipality’s “Grinda” site.

The bench was called a “gift” by Vilnius as a gift to Vilnius, but Vilnius is not giving up this gift for the first time. She was smeared with paint a few months ago.

“I think we can treat such episodes as expressions of a debate in society. For a very long time, this was also confirmed by the President of our country, these debates were placed in the drawers of the Seimas “, – commented the parliamentarian from the Freedom Group Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius.

Nausėda criticized the interpretation of the CC

Discussing the partnership, President Gitanas Nausėda criticizes the CC’s interpretation of the concept of family.

“I, as the President of the Republic of Lithuania, in fact, have no choice but to point the finger at Article 38 and ask others, do I understand its content correctly? I am told: “no, you do not fully understand this content, because there is an interpretation of the CC that expands the concept of family,” said G. Nausėda during a discussion with Archbishop Gintaras Grusu and philosopher prof. Alvydas Jokubaitis.

According to the article mentioned by G. Nausėda, the family is the basis of society and the state, and marriage is concluded by free consent of a man and a woman.

“Then I say: oh, what is the meaning of the institution of marriage then? If the partnership becomes equal to the family, the question is, then who needs to start a family on the basis of marriage, if in essence the content is exactly the same as the partnership? ”, Asked G. Nausėda.

Greens severely cut off the president

Former Chairman of the CC D. Greening says about the interpretation of the CC: “The Constitution does not allow discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, and therefore persons living together must be considered a family.

“Because that speech really smells of incompetence, I just see it as an ordinary politician’s speech. Of course, the authority of the CC should not be undermined, and it should not be demonstrated that there is insufficient knowledge in the field of the Constitution, ”said D. Žalimas.

D. Žalimas says that the president is not above the CC.

“And, like all other state institutions, he is bound by the acts of the CC and interpretations of the CC, even if he does not understand them,” D. Žalimas said.

At the beginning, they will seek consensus in the Seimas

Nausėda has said she would have vetoed the partnership project as presented. At least 71 votes are needed to reject a presidential veto, and so far the authors of the project have a hard time getting votes even for a presentation that would only require a majority of those sitting in the hall at the time.

“The devil is in the details. What was presented in the previous version of the law, in my opinion, already practically equates the partnership with the family. That is why I think it is unfair to the Constitution to try to solve it in such a surrounding way, ”said G. Nausėda.

But because the Seimas itself rejected the project in the first stage. TV Raskevičius fixes it. What will be changed there so that there are more votes in favor and so that G. Nausėda does not vote, TV Raskevičius does not reveal yet.

“I believe that the President will make a proper, measured and fair decision for all the people of Lithuania when he has to make such a decision. And at the moment, my main task as a member of the Seimas is to find a consensus here in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, ”he said.

Once again, the partnership project is planned to be brought to the Seimas in November-December.
