Green seems to be taking a turn about postponing the nuclear exit: “It is a means, not an end in itself”

The minister warns that more needs to be done than postponing the nuclear phase-out. “One cannot exist without the other. Nuclear is not a miracle solution. Nuclear energy and life extension is about 3 percent of our supply, while today we are importing 90 percent of our energy. Not addressing this would be guilty omission.”

According to Van der Straten, we need more green energy for a structurally low energy bill. “I expect everyone in this country – all governments, all companies and all citizens – to think along about those solutions.”

Among other things, the minister talks about high-voltage lines that are yet to be built, a regional competence. “Security of supply and affordability are a shared responsibility of all governments. I expect all governments to take responsibility. I am for more cooperation instead of small big-a-like wars on Twitter.” The latter is a reference to her Flemish colleague Zuhal Demir (N-VA), who regularly lashes out at Van der Straeten on Twitter.
