The urban jungle par excellence: such is the image immediately associated with New York. Concrete verticals, impassable avenues, heavy traffic, noise, continuous roar of air conditioning, neon lights of Times Square as symbols of overconsumption … At first glance, only Central Park (photo) seems to bring a shade of green to this hyperactive, devouring and devouring megalopolis. sometimes inhuman.
Yet “Big Apple” is gradually turning into “Green Apple”, a greener and more zen city. Community parks and gardens are created on post-industrial wasteland, new “eco-friendly” havens of peace. Alternative transport is developing, as are restaurants and markets that are organic or favor local products.
And the metropolis even has some nice surprises in store when the terminus of a metro line leads to … the beach or unspoiled wilderness!
