Green light for the Declaration of Regional Interest for Meta

The Government Council of Castilla-La Mancha has approved the Declaration of Regional Interest (DIR) for the Talavera Meta Data Center. The project thus gets the green light to begin processing as a Project of Singular Interest, as confirmed by the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, during his visit to Talavera today to inaugurate the expansion of the logistics company’s facilities Carosan.

Page has taken advantage of his presence in the Torrehierro industrial estate to confirm the progress made on a project that will be developed in the second phase of the industrial action and that will occupy it in its entirety. “Today the government of Castilla-La Mancha has already married Meta”, Page assured during the opening ceremony in which he highlighted the importance of the Meta project for the future of Talavera.

There are a total of 191 hectares of industrial land, to build a key center for Spain and southern Europe. These new facilities will be similar in function and scale to the other three currently operating in other European countries: Luleå (Sweden), Clonee (Ireland) and Odensee (Denmark).

Meta has valued the investment it will make in Talavera at 1,000 million euros and 840 jobs that would be generated per year during the construction phase and 250 jobs when the data center is active.

The DIR request was submitted on March 4 by the company Global Villacreces, SL, owned by the parent company Meta. The application specified that the project “aims at the construction of a Data Processing Center in Europe, which will house the company’s operations and information technology equipment used to produce, process and store data that will allow provide service through its different applications (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, among others)».

The DIR process is the first that the technological project has saved for its installation in Talavera, after the public exhibition period, which ended on April 11, only favorable reports were presented, four in total, one of them from the Talavera City Council itself, which has paved the way for a favorable resolution.

Saved that first step, the company will be able to present the Project of Singular Interest (PSI), a figure through which the processing can be accelerated, since it covers all the steps. The PSI is reserved for actions of relevant social or economic interest at the regional level and has been used for projects such as the Puy du Fou theme park, installed in Toledo.

As the company explained in the DIR application, the project ‘aims at the construction of a Data Processing Center in Europe, which will house the company’s IT operations and equipment used to produce, process and store data that allows service through its different applications (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, among others)».
