The National Security Council (CNS) has reached a consensus on the lifting of the ban on second residences, Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon (N-VA) announced on Wednesday.
There was “unanimity” within the CNS for a lifting of the ban on staying in second homes, said Jan Jambon. The agreement fell on an “immediate lifting” of these prohibitions, according to Jambon, even if the texts have yet to be published in the Belgian Official Gazette. For her part, Sophie Wilmès assured that a “short term solution” was about to be found, without giving a precise date.
Initially, no white smoke was expected for the “second residents” before June 8. But under pressure, in particular from the owners, Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès announced yesterday that a solution was on the horizon if the markers for the spread of the disease remained favorable and that the experts decided in this direction.
“If we receive the green light from the GEES (Group of Experts in charge of the Exit Strategy) to authorize citizens to go to their second residence, we will do so. If we hear that from the health point of view this can be perfectly organized, I don’t see why we should waste more time, “she said on the sidelines of a visit to Bozar on Tuesday.
