Green Earth Movement, a coalition of organisations with a strong focus on environmental and social governance, has announced its plans to integrate India’s millets and organic products into the global supply chain. Green Earth is aiming to create opportunities for millet and organic farmers to reach global markets and also helping Women Millets & Organics start-up entrepreneurs to establish their own stores all over Tamil Nadu.
The coalition will conduct Millets Expos in Kuala Lumpur in July, Davos, Switzerland in October, and Dubai in December of this year, to showcase the range of goods and products available. In addition, Green Earth is planning to organise larger events in various cities across India, with a focus on highlighting locally-sourced organic and millet produce.
The initiative aims to create new opportunities for farmers and growers, who often struggle to compete with large-scale agribusiness operations. By promoting and marketing these traditionally-neglected crops in global and domestic markets, Green Earth hopes to create additional revenue streams for Indian farmers.
The Rise, a group of global Tamil entrepreneurs and professionals, joined forces with The Nanban Foundation Mothers for Mother Nature and Development Activities for Rural People (DARP) to launch the Green Earth movement in August last year.
Since its launch, the Green Earth movement has focused on organising Millets and Organic Fests in cities across Tamil Nadu, with over 25,000 students participating in the events organised so far. Building on this early momentum, Green Earth has also planned to create 100 Women Millets & Organics start-up entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu. The Rise and The Nanban Foundation will identify, train, and fund Millets & Organics shops across Tamil Nadu.
In addition, Green Earth is also planning to plant millions of trees, create small forests, and increase its focus on water conservation, biodiversity, the environment, and social governance.
Green Earth’s success is partly attributed to the ability of its stakeholders to pool experts, activists, and institutions. Rev. Dr Jegath Gaspar Raj, Sakthi Palani Gounder, Preetha, Saravanan Sinapan and Suresh Manoharan are the joint curators of Green Earth movement, who are constantly open to collaborations.

Overall, Green Earth’s initiatives are aimed at creating environmentally sustainable and socially responsible business practices that will support local farmers and help to build a robust, resilient agricultural system for future generations. By promoting organic and local produce, Green Earth is working towards a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
