The American global pop-punk group Green Day is a very diligent producer of studio albums, although recently its cycle has stabilized in the mode of one album in four years. “Saviors” is the fourteenth studio recording of this band’s career. It features a total of 15 tracks, including previously released singles ‘One Eyed Bastard’, ‘Dilemma’, ‘Look Ma, No Brains!’ and “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” which received critical acclaim from industry-leading publications such as Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, SPIN, Stereogum, and others.
Over the past couple of months, Green Day have been popping up in a variety of unexpected and unannounced locations with surprise gigs, giving fans a glimpse of an upcoming album, from a small and intimate gig in an English ‘pub’ to an almost impromptu show in Las Vegas. It is clear that all this has heated up the fans’ interest in the new album. The recording was made in studios in London and Los Angeles, and was created by Grammy Award winner, longtime band producer Rob Cavallo, who was also involved in the creation of Green Day’s iconic albums “Dookie” (1994) and “American Idiot” (2004).
What happened? It’s a great album! Unlike “Blink-182”, “Weezer”, “Sum 42” and similar pop-punk co-runners, whose songs and albums sound made according to the “copy-paste” principle, “Green Day” in its stylistic uniformity always manages to include one (or several ) for a very successful piece. “Saviors” offers a series of them, and strangely enough, they are not the singles released on the market, of which only “Look Ma, No Brains!” could be called truly elegant. In the reviewer’s opinion, songs like “Bobby Sox” (what heavenly bass sounds!), energetic “1981”, also lighter “Corvette Summer” and “Suzie Chapstick” seem much more interesting, but the best is the stuffy “Living In” at the end of the album. The 20’s” – definitely listen to it!
In spring and summer, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool will go on a massive world tour, starting with concerts in Europe and the UK, and the “setlist” will include not only songs from the new album, but also songs from the “Dookie” and “American Idiot” albums . It is doubtful that such a stadium-level rock group as “Green Day” could appear in a branch of the homeland of hip-hop in Latvia, so you just have to look for the nearest concert venues. The concert schedule can be found on the group’s website, but it does not promise anything encouraging – from the point of view of our location, the most promising “Green
Day” could be the “Rock im Park” and “Rock am Ring” festivals on June 7-8, or concerts in Berlin and Hamburg right after (together with the German “Donots”), as well as a series of concerts in the UK and Ireland in June at the end (with “Nothing But Thieves”) with the grand closing chord of the European leg of the tour at Wembley Stadium on June 29.
