In February 2017, Green Cross founder Mikhail Gorbachev resigned from the board of trustees of Green Cross International after a dispute over the contributions of the Swiss section.

The accusations made by Green Cross Switzerland President Martin Bäumle (55) against his former managing director Nathalie Gysi (49) were massive. You falsified the balance sheet and income statement, the Zurich GLP National Council said when it first informed about the precarious financial situation of the environmental organization last April.
–
He had to admit that it was only in August 2018 that he realized that the Foundation’s liquidity was far less than that communicated by Gysi. This is despite the fact that the cooperation with the managing director had deteriorated more and more since the previous year. Then he released her immediately. The foundation council filed a criminal complaint against Gysi at the end of 2018 for improper business management.

Bäumle hid financial problems for months
But Bäumle kept silent to the public and donors for months that Green Cross Switzerland was about to go bankrupt. Only when BLICK and other media received documents and reported on the financial difficulties last April did the Green Cross boss make the financial situation transparent.
–
Although there were no more CHF 200,000 in the cash register for the big clean-up, he said at the time that he wanted to regain the trust of the donors by making Green Cross Switzerland “everything transparent and showing the great effort to save the organization”.
–
BLICK now discovered on the Green Cross website a skinny message, according to which Green Cross Switzerland and Gysi would have settled their differences. Next: “As a result, Green Cross Switzerland is no longer interested in continuing criminal proceedings for improper business conduct and has issued a declaration of disinterest.”
–
Second criminal complaint pending
Why Bäumle suddenly withdrew after the serious allegations against Gysi is not justified. When asked by BLICK, Bäumle emphasized: “Nathalie Gysi and Green Cross Switzerland have reached a comprehensive agreement on their existing differences.” He says nothing more. The agreement was announced on the Green Cross website. No further communication is planned.
–
In addition, he had worked intensively as interim managing director in the past 17 months to stabilize the financial situation of the organization. “Green Cross Switzerland is in very good shape again today,” explains Bäumle.
–
The Zurich public prosecutor confirmed the declaration of lack of interest last December. A second criminal complaint from unknown last March against ex-CEO and Green Cross President Martin Bäumle remains pending.
