Yesterday, in its twenty-seventh session of the year, the City Council sanctioned an ordinance sanctioning the creation of the “Green Commitment” Municipal Program.
This is an initiative aimed at individuals, public and private entities who wish to take responsibility for the planting, protection and conservation of trees in municipal public spaces. The Secretary for the Environment and Sustainable Development will be the executive authority.
As promoted by his mentors, the official advisers Mercedes Mestres and Melisa Mecca, the general objectives of this program are: “The protection and conservation of trees in public spaces to ensure their growth and conservation in order to improve the quality of the city environment and encourage citizen participation in building a sustainable city and reducing the carbon footprint “.
The articles of the regulation specify that “those who are part of the program will contribute specifically to the conservation and improvement of the environment through the planting or maintenance of tree species in a specific public space through irrigation, fertilization, fertilization of the land, the placement of guardians and corralitos, among other actions “.
To do this, again according to what is stated in the dossier of the new ordinance, the Executive will have to sign free collaboration agreements with people or public or private entities, who will assume the honorary office of godfathers or godmothers of the trees of a space that will be entrusted to it. to protect and accompany its adequate growth.
The collaboration agreements will establish the rights and obligations that correspond to each of the parties. In case of non-compliance, they will be automatically revoked.
The agreements will have a duration of two years, after which they can be renewed or new interested parties can be called. The person or organization can put up posters in the assigned public space where they will display their name and that of the “Commitment Green” Municipal Program.
Forest districts, squares and streets with the help of neighbors
As part of the Urban Tree Plan, the Municipality of Corrientes has already planted 2,000 trees in 2022. In this way, progress is being made in placing different tree species in neighborhoods and public spaces.
The administration of the capital has long developed an urban tree planting plan whose main objective is to increase the number of trees in the neighborhoods, squares and streets of the city.
According to the latest information in this regard, so far in 2022 more than 2,000 specimens have already been planted with the premise of reaching 2,500 by the end of the year.
In the same way, the campaign “A tree, a neighbor” continues, an action through which the participation of citizens is proposed, through joint work, which has personalized assistance to neighbors who require the planting of trees.
