BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Greens leader Omid Nouripour does not fundamentally reject the increase in the defense budget by ten billion euros a year demanded by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD). “We are not against it,” said Nouripour on Tuesday in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”. However, Nouripour demanded that the money that is spent also reaches the troops and does not sink into “strange projects that ultimately make no sense, do not bring more security, but burn money”. That has to change, emphasized Nouripour.
According to the Green politician, only 13 billion of the 100 billion euro special pot set up last year will have been paid out by the end of this year. “First we know what we are spending money on – first we know in which structures it is spent. Then of course we can also talk about the amount of money,” said Nouripour.
