Greeks Get 10% Food Subsidy Due To High Inflation | Abroad

The Greek government will pay 10% of household spending starting in February. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced it on Saturday. The subsidy is intended to help Greeks in times of high inflation.

The check is valid for a period of six months and can be used to make purchases at supermarkets and other shops that sell groceries, such as patisseries.

In total, the Greek government will release around 650 million euros. A single-member family can request a maximum of 220 euros per month. An amount of 100 euros will be added for each additional family member. For large families, a maximum amount of 1,000 euros is applied.

“We are trying to help as many families as possible,” the prime minister said. The program is funded by excess taxes on the country’s refineries. According to Mitsotakis, more than 85% of taxpayers are helped by the program.
