Greek police have found a painting of Picasso stolen nine years ago

Greek police have found a painting by a Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso, entitled “A Woman’s Head”, which was stolen from the National Gallery in Athens nine years ago.

Picasso’s work was found together with a damaged painting by the Dutch painter Pete Mondrian, about 50 kilometers from Athens.

A 49-year-old man has been charged with theft.

Police reopened the investigation last February, when experts concluded that the “Woman’s Head” had not appeared on the black market and had not left Greece.

The value of the painting was estimated at 16.5 million euros.

The painting is of particular importance to Greece, as Picasso personally presented it to the country in recognition of its resistance to the Nazis during World War II.
