Greek Government Cancels Contract with Russia for Maintenance of Anti-Aircraft Missile Systems

The Greek government has decided to cancel the contract with the Russian Federation for the maintenance of anti-aircraft missile systems of the Tor-M1 and Osa-AKM complexes, which are in service with the country’s army.

Details: According to the publication, it says that Athens will no longer purchase spare parts and components for the Tor-M1 and Osa-AKM air defense systems.

Because of this, these complexes may soon be removed from service, since the available spare parts will last only a few months due to their small number and the government’s refusal to fulfill the current contract.

In total, the Greek Army and Air Force are armed with 21 Tor-M1 self-propelled air defense systems and 38 Osa-AKM self-propelled systems with a maximum firing range of 10-12 km.

The contract for further system support in subsequent years is more than 102 million euros. The material states that “most likely” these air defense systems will be transferred to Ukraine through third countries, and the decision made is “purely political.”

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens signed a joint declaration on the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.

It also became known that Greece join the training Ukrainians on the F-16.
