“Greek Foreign Minister comments on Turkey’s election results and hopes for friendly relations”

Greece always hopes for the best, but also prepares for the worst, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on the occasion of the election results of yesterday’s presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey, ANA-MPA quoted, BTA reported.

“It seems that, despite Western predictions, Erdogan’s absolute hegemony has not ended,” the minister said in an interview with the Greek radio “Alpha 989”. When asked about Turkey’s ambitions and the role the country wants to play in the region, Dendias stressed that hopes that Turkey understands that friendly relations with Greece are a necessary condition for these ambitions.

The minister commented that after the earthquake, the Turkish side has changed its rhetoric and policy, which is welcome for Greece, but according to him, both countries have a long way to go in the future.

“Greece has nothing to lose from a rich and stable Turkey. The point is that Turkey must abandon its idea of neo-Ottoman imposition,” he said. Regarding the polls, Dendias said that “Turkey is a huge country with great depth” that can hardly be captured in polls.

Greece is obliged to cooperate with whoever the Turkish people choose to be president next Sunday, Dendias told Sky TV.
