Greek authorities have announced that 2,070 new cases of coronavirus infection and five deaths have been confirmed in the last 24 hours, the Kathimerini newspaper reported.

Thirteen of the new cases concern tourists who were tested on arrival in the country.

The total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 477,975, with 12,903 victims.

Currently, 147 people have been intubated in intensive care units.

Greece said today that children between the ages of 12 and 15 could be vaccinated against KOVID-19 with the Pfizer / Biontech and Moderna vaccines, extending the scope of youth vaccination, which began this month, Reuters reported.

Greek Vaccination Committee chief Maria Theodoridou said including younger teenagers in the program will help protect vulnerable youth and relatives and pave the way for them to return to school in September.

Earlier today, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that in the coming days, the electronic vaccination appointment platform will be open to the 12-15 age group, having previously been open to teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17.

Greece, which has a population of 11 million, has so far given more than 10.2 doses of the vaccine. About 46.8 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, according to Health Ministry Chief Secretary Marios Themistocleus.
