Greece ready to roll the dice at Eurovision with Marina Satti’s ‘Zari’

Greece’s entry for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, titled “Zari,” has been officially unveiled. The song, an uplifting fusion of traditional, modern, and ethnographic elements performed by Marina Satti, was released on Thursday evening on the 37-year-old artist’s YouTube account.

The predominantly Greek lyrics of “Zari” delve into themes of love and the inherent risks we sometimes must take, likening life’s uncertainties to a roll of the dice.

The song received mixed reviews on social media platforms.

The Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place in Malmö, Sweden, with the first semi-final on Tuesday, May 7, the second semi-final on Thursday, May 9, and the grand final on Saturday, May 11. Satti is set to perform during the first half of the second semi-final on Thursday, May 9.

“Zari” was composed by Satti, OGΕ, Nick Kodonas, Kay Be, Jay Stolar, Gino The Ghost, and Jordan Palmer, with lyrics penned by VLOSPA, OGΕ, Satti, and Solmeister. Acclaimed choreographer Fokas Evangelinos serves as the creative director for Satti’s stage appearance, with choreography and movement direction by Mecnun Giasar (Majnoon) and art direction by NMR. The music video was directed by Australian filmmaker Zac Wiesel.

Satti’s performance, marking Greece’s 44th appearance in the contest, coincides with the 50th anniversary of the country’s debut in the Eurovision Song Contest at Brighton, UK, in 1974, where Marinella secured eleventh place singing “Krasi, thalassa ke t’ agori mou.” Greece achieved victory in 2005 with Elena Paparizou’s “My Number One.” [Combined reports]
