/ world today news/ Greece has paid its contribution to the European Central Bank (ECB) in the amount of 3.4 billion euros, according to sources close to the government in Athens, quoted by AFP.
At the end of today, the deadline in which Greece had to return the owed funds expired.
The payment became possible after the governments of the eurozone countries supported the third rescue program for the country, which will have a total value of 86 billion euros.
At the same time, the TASS agency reported that the European Stabilization Mechanism (ESM) has transferred to Greece the first part of the loan that will be granted to it, in the amount of 13 billion euros.
These funds will allow Athens to settle on time with the European Central Bank (ECB), to which it had to transfer 3.2 billion euros by the end of today.
“The transfer of 13 billion euros has been carried out, another 10 billion from the first tranche of aid will be placed in reserve in a separate account for the needs of the recapitalization of the banks in Greece,” the press service said.
