Greece has lifted the mandatory seven-day quarantine for tourists from EU member states, the Schengen agreement, as well as the United Kingdom, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Serbia and Israel. This is stated in the interdepartmental decision, published on Sunday evening in the government newspaper, reports TACC.
The text emphasizes that special conditions are introduced for permanent residents of these countries. From 19 April, they are allowed to enter Greece without compulsory quarantine if they test negative for a coronavirus test or vaccination certificate.
Greek government spokesman Aristotle Peloni said at a briefing that Greece would lift the mandatory seven-day quarantine for tourists from a number of countries next week. Peloni clarified that tourists, as well as Greek citizens, will not be able to move between the country’s regions. Catering establishments will not be open to tourists. According to a cabinet spokesman, “tourists must stay in their hotels, where they have arrived, where they are provided with food that is made just for them.”
A general quarantine was introduced in Greece on November 7 last year to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Cinemas, museums, concert halls, sports facilities, night and dance clubs and other similar facilities have not been operating in the country for more than five months. Catering establishments have the right to sell food at home or deliver it to the home. Wearing protective masks is mandatory both indoors and outdoors. There is an evening class in the country.
As of Sunday, the number of people in Greece infected with the coronavirus reached 315,273, with 9,462 deaths. Recently, the situation with the coronavirus in the country has stabilized. Authorities are removing some restrictions, in particular on traffic between areas of the settlement. Earlier, hairdressers and beauty salons were opened, and visits to archeological sites in open areas were also allowed.
