Greece hit by forest fires – Photo

During the day, 58 forest fires broke out, but most of them were quickly extinguished. A large fire broke out on Saturday morning near the city of Patras in the north of the Peloponnese. Five villages have been evacuated, a road closed and a bridge connecting the Peloponnese with the rest of Greece. Eight people were taken to hospitals with burns or respiratory problems. Five helicopters and two specialized aircraft are also involved in the fight against the flames. Nearby hospitals have been warned that they may have to take in new victims, but the coast guard is ready to rescue people seeking refuge from the smoke of the water.
