Public life in Greece has been severely disrupted by heavy snowfall. The government has sent home all officials except those responsible for managing the emergency, such as snowplows, firefighters, police and other emergency services.
Many roads have become impassable and closed. Athens airport is still open, but air traffic has been heavily delayed. Schools in almost all of Greece are closed today and tomorrow.
On the island of Evia, villages are cut off from the outside world. There are also problems with the power supply.
Also on the southern islands
It snows more often in Greece, but mainly in mountainous areas and the north of the country. If something falls in the south, it often disappears quickly.
Now the winter weather seems to last for days. Even the southern Cycladic islands, such as Mykonos, Santorini, Naxos and Syros, have been snowing since the weekend.
