Neymar‘s comeback brings back memories of Ronaldo Nazario
Neymar had only made five appearances for Al-Hilal when he suffered a serious knee injury in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match on October 18, 2023. His return is not only welcomed in Brazil and the Middle East, football fans all over the world are happy about his return.
Former Uruguayan international defender Diego Lugano told ESPNthat all of football would benefit from Neymar’s return. He compared his recovery to that of legendary striker Ronaldo Nazario, who once struggled with injury problems himself.
Lugano said: “This is very good news for world football. The most magical player that football has had in the last decade, he is just different. I think this is the biggest challenge of his career. If he can reach 70 or 80 of his top performance again “It would be the greatest comeback in football history, even compared to Il Fenomeno.”
Lugano continued: “After a year off, it is very difficult to get back to the same rhythm and level as before, especially given his style of play. And now that his joints are affected, I can imagine that he will no longer have the lightness that characterized him so much. But everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that he can reach this level and shine in what will probably be his last World Championship.”
