The outcome of the Brazilian Grand Prix was the culmination of an uncertain weekend full of twists and turns, with Max Verstappen author of an exceptional comeback that brought him back to victory and the duo Alpine capable of hitting a sensational double podium placement.
On the sidelines of the race he spoke Flavio Briatore who, to the microphones of Sky Sportcommented on the performance of the transalpine team: “Ocon and Gasly did a great jobbut we also had a bit of luck. Our car rides much better in the wet than in the dry“. The Enstone team did not even lack the courage to dare and, in the midst of the chaos, preferred to stay on the track rather than make a pit stop: “When you are competitive it is easier to take risks. Today we were and, thinking that a red flagwe therefore decided to stay out”.
Change of mentality towards the future
The season that is about to end will certainly be cataloged as one of the most complicated in the entire history of Alpine (formerly Renault), but since the return of the Italian manager it seems that something is slowly changing: “This year we carried out a beautiful one ‘cleanliness’ within the team. When I arrived there were more than 1000 employees, while now there are around 800. However, we avoided completely distorting the environment to avoid influencing the design of the 2025 single-seater. I’d say it went well because we managed to progress, unlike other teams who when they think they’ve taken a step actually find themselves one step back.”.
Briatore then focused on the issue Power Unittowards what will be Renault’s last year as an engine manufacturer before making room (most likely) for Mercedes which will provide its units to the French team: “Las Vegas will be a track on which we will sufferbecause engine efficiency matters a lot. In Brazil this effect disappears and, furthermore, in wet conditions the issue relating to the power of the Power Unit is eliminated. We will have to make up for this deficit of approximately three tenths even in 2025 by designing a better car than the current one, either a level aerodynamic what about tire management“.
