Great Testmatta vertical in Vienna – Falstaff

At the invitation of the wine trading company Morandell in Wörgl in Tyrol, representatives of the press met in Vienna, together with around 150 colleagues in twelve countries, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his Flagship Sangiovese called Testamatta to celebrate. The »Schakko« restaurant, which opened in the 3rd district last autumn, served as a stylish backdrop for the presentation of an entire series of characterful red wine, its grapes come from two ancient vineyards located north and south of Florence.

“Peter of Tuscany”

Bibi Graetz comes from a family of artists with Israeli-Norwegian roots, his parents already planted vines in the Tuscan soil. Graetz also picks up the brush himself, and as with wine, with great talent, as the labels of his wines prove. He himself likes to refer to the Testamatta as the »Pétrus of Tuscany«, with a retail price of € 99.90 it is in the upper league, but compared to the Pomerol mentioned it is almost a »bargain«.

Graetz produces a second, even rarer Sangiovese called Colore, the name of which indicates that it was originally made from Colorino, but has since given way to Sangiovese from particularly old plots. There is also one of both wines White wine, the Testamatta Bianco is made from the excellent Ansonica variety, which grows on terraced plants on the island of Giglio.

The series of wines presented in Vienna this week showed the development of this today sought-after Tuscan super red wine, which has developed from its beginnings as a more conventional Supertuscan more and more into that character head, shaped by the grapes from ancient vines. The focus here is depth and freshness, the aim is regional typicality and not internationality.
