Our athletes could parade behind the Guatemalan flag in Paris 2024
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) provisionally lifted the suspension on the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG) this Tuesday, which will allow its athletes to compete in the Paris 2024 Games with their national symbols.
After this measure, athletes who manage to get their ticket to the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024 will be able to use the blue and white colors at the most important sporting event of the year.

James Macleod, director of Olympic Solidarity and relations with national committees, reported that in view of the latest “positive” events, among which he mentioned “the extraordinary general assembly” held by the COG last weekend, the punishment was lifted.
In this assembly, the recognition of Jorge Rodas as president, not recognized by the Olympic Movement, was withdrawn and the first steps were taken to restore validity to the statutes approved in 2021, which were those endorsed by the IOC.
For this reason, and “in the interest of the athletes”, the IOC Executive considered it appropriate to “provisionally lift the suspension, until further notice.”
“This means,” said Macleod, “that Guatemalan athletes can prepare for the Paris Games, where they will compete with their flag and anthem, as in other competitions.”
In this way, after being out of the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023 and the Pan American Games Santiago de Chile 2023 in which they could not participate, the athletes will be able to use the colors of Guatemala again in the largest Olympic event.
Therefore, Guatemala will participate in the Olympic Games 15 times uninterruptedly, after starting in Mexico 1968 until the last ones to be held in Tokyo 2020.
Guatemalans qualified for Paris
Since the opening of the qualifications for the largest Olympic event, Guatemala already has ten athletes qualified for the Games that will take place between July 26 and August 11.
