Great news for pensioners has been announced by the NOI. Over 678,000 elderly people in our country receive a widow’s supplement to their pension according to data from the end of 2023. It is about the supplement under Art. 84 of the Social Insurance Code, which is 26.5 percent of the deceased spouse’s pension.
Nearly 597,000 of these supplements are paid to pensions for long-term and old-age pensions, and 67,000 to disability pensions, the NSI data also show.
9,000 of the widow’s supplements are received by pensioners who worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Defense, and 1,600 to pensions not related to work.
In addition to widow’s allowances, 70,541 people receive a supplement for foreign aid in our country. As of July 1 last year, its amount was changed to BGN 207.48. 102 pensioners receive a supplement for veterans, which amounts to BGN 276.64. 6,255 people receive a supplement for repressed persons (under Article 9 of the Law on Political and Civil Rehabilitation of Repressed Persons), with the largest number of such supplements being paid in Smolyan – 1,033. The amount of this supplement is calculated from the average amount of the pension for seniority and age for the previous year.
The largest number of pensioners in Sofia receive widow’s allowances – nearly 98,000, and the reason is that the largest number of people live here.
