A fire has raged in three large barns in the town of Hem in North Holland. The barns, where wooden boxes were stored, have been completely destroyed, the safety region reports. There were no casualties. The cause of the fire is unknown.
The fire was discovered around 1am. Asbestos has been released, but it has settled not far from the sheds and, according to the safety region, does not pose a danger to the surrounding area. It was announced around 4 a.m. that the fire was under control.
The flames could be seen in the wider area. An adjacent farm and another farmhouse have been vacated. People who were bothered by the smoke in the area were advised to close windows and doors.
