Great! Erick Reveals BUMN to brush Argentine & Brazilian companies

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir was outspoken about the plans to acquire foreign companies. This was conveyed at the 5th Jakarta Food and Security Summit 2020 which took place on Thursday (19/11/2020).

Erick emphasized that his party is open to a number of cooperation schemes in the food sector. Especially for commodities such as sugar, fish and cattle. He gave an example, so far, one of the biggest imports in BUMN, namely salt, phosphate and meat.

“Now of course with a large market in BUMN itself, we are very open if we need to acquire meat companies abroad with the private sector,” explained Erick Thohir.

“We make Indonesia Incorporation. We don’t need the majority, maybe 40%, 60% 2-3 private players. We acquire companies in Brazil or Argentina, we are more than welcome,” he explained.

By partnering, according to him, the distribution of goods will be easier. According to him, this is an example of a win-win solution carried out by the Ministry of BUMN.

“What about the market that imports 1.5 million tons of meat, if possible we will follow suit. In the sense that we don’t continue to import, our market is big anyway. Now this is one of the partnerships we can do for acquisitions abroad,” he explained.

As for cooperation with domestic companies, according to him, there are still many opportunities that are being explored. He has encouraged the President Director of PT RNI, who is in charge of the BUMN food holding company, to carry out the mapping.

“That mapping can later be presented by the new RNI President Director, who Insyaallah will be active at the end of this November. Later, I will ask the new President Director to be able to explain to Kadin. The background of the new CEO is a former private sector, formerly at Hero. Then he ventured to join forces. to the state, BUMD. And now to BUMN. Yes, we try to give that opportunity, “he said.
