He has officially been in the game for two years. “I have been a game designer since 2018”, confirms Maxime Rambourg proudly. The reality is that he has been involved since he was a child: “It comes from my father, I think I have always been passionate”.

In 2015, the Messin imagines “Big Book of Madness” (released by the publisher Iello in Nancy) which sells more than 60,000 copies worldwide. Translated into ten languages, this bestseller allows him to make it his full-time job. “It’s a luxury and a real chance”, concedes the game designer. “I have always been in creation, whether in cinema, music or theater: what interests me is writing”.
Unfortunately, the law did not include anything in its texts concerning the statute of author. “There is a legal vacuum: a book or a song is considered legally as a cultural good, not a board game”.

Now master of the game, Maxime Rambourg is in charge with… his cutter, cardboard, tokens and dice. “It all starts with an anthology of ideas in my head,” he says, emphasizing the importance of mechanics and strategy. “Then it’s DIY, collage and cutting”. The game designer is the scriptwriter of the project. “I do not decide on the sets, the graphics or the look of the characters: as in the cinema, it is then a producer and a director who take over.”
