10 new essences. The ten species tested in the Great East are: Zean oak, Hungarian oak, pubescent oak, Manchurian ash, American copalme, Cilician fir, Macedonian pine, calocedra, cypress Arizona and the evergreen redwood.

Sales.- The Grand Est sells five million m³ of wood every year. The new species selected were selected for their uses in construction, furniture, cooperage, exterior carpentry, etc.

Hardwood versus softwood.

A third of the Grand Est.- Forests occupy a third of the regional surface, or 1.8 million hectares. And, unlike the rest of the country, most of them (60%) belong to the public domain (State or municipalities).

Exceptional forests: The Verdun forest and the Montagne de Reims massif have received the Exceptional Forest label. That of Haguenau, in the Bas-Rhin, is a candidate for the label.
