Despite this bad situation, however, Drtil rallied, winning three legs in a row and recording the biggest success of his career so far. And the Exhibition Center in Letňany exploded with excitement.
Some of those present may have had a slight feeling of déjà vu, as the Englishman Cullen, who dominated the Masters darts two years ago, was surprisingly unable to beat him another local darts player, Karel Sedláček, a year ago at the PDC European Tour event in Prague. However, Drtila’s amateur success is even more interesting.
“This is the biggest achievement of my career, nothing bigger than the PDC podium. And to beat Joe, which I like, because he’s a nice guy,” said Drtil immediately after scalping the Englishman for tn.cz.
“I drove to a test after midnight and slept for three hours. Now I have grabbed a bit and tried to install everything and it worked. The fans helped me a lot and tied the opponent a bit, I think,” continued the fifty-year-old darts player. However, he is putting the brakes on bigger celebrations for now. “I won’t celebrate, because then I’ll be useless for two days. So just on Sunday,” explained Drtil.
In addition to advancing, the Czech amateur received a nice prize of 75,000 crowns. On Saturday, Drtila will face young Irishman Josh Rock, who is ranked 15th in the world.
