Great cinema: “Wish upon a Star” shines at the anniversary concert

“Wish upon a Star” has been interpreting music from children’s films in Neuburg for ten years. For the birthday concert, they make hearts beat faster with special surprises.

That was a tenth birthday! Surprise guests, performances, humor and the best choice of songs – good conditions to celebrate yourself, the music and the loyal audience. That’s probably what the people behind “Wish upon a Star” also thought, a formation in Neuburg that is unfortunately far too little known and has been committed to bringing well-known songs from children’s films to the stage since 2013. And what can you say: the concept worked!

The famous Walt Disney once said: “The real problem in our world is that too many people are growing up.” And created films that made fathers, mothers, grandparents and their children dream. Enchanting songs played a large part in this, helping to tell the stories in colorful colors over the past decades. A stroke of genius that was quickly adopted by other children’s films.

So now there were people sitting in the packed Neuburg City Theater on two evenings, no matter what age, who – even though they may have physically grown up – had not lost that childlike ability to dream on stage with the musicians and singers. Because they were allowed to dream big. Danced through the hall with Belle and the Beast, swam under the sea with Ariel, rode through the woods with Merida.

It wasn’t difficult to immerse yourself in these well-known classics. This was effortlessly ensured on the microphones by Franziska Heckl, Judith Titze, Julia Fleskes, Lisa Moosheimer, Pauline Georgiev and Philip Thomas, who stepped forward sometimes in a duet, sometimes as a solo and not only sang the musical masterpieces, but lived them. How could it be otherwise, since over the past ten years they had all followed the call of Lucie Schafferhans, who brought this project to life with just such people: people who are passionate about children’s film music and want to convey this passion to their audience .

And this works seemingly effortlessly with this ensemble, which is supported by five instrumentalists (Manuel Ehlich, Mario Müller, Lukas Lautenbacher, Andreas Wittmann, Mia Hopfner). It works, both in sensitive and quiet solo parts, as well as in the powerful moments when all seven voices harmonize so wonderfully with each other. As if that wasn’t enough, humorous moderation spices up the evening. What would be more appropriate at this point than a look back at the past ten years.

As a surprise, members of the Free Actors Guild also came to the anniversary concert.

To top it all off, there are surprise guests. Not only singers from the early days are suddenly on stage, Oliver Wasilesku, head of the Neuburg Music School, is also allowed to join in on the jazz. So many goosebumps anyway, you laugh, you clap, you just want to get up and dance. But of course, one more thing is possible: Suddenly the members of the Free Actors Guild come onto the stage. It is the association of Neuburg artists who have taken the “Wish upon a Star” project under their wing since it was founded a few years ago. A big choir in the background, what more could you want?

Well, one wish still remains. You finally heard some musical shooting stars and saw these dazzling “stars” give their best on stage. So there is enough star material in the sky of the Neuburg City Theater on these two evenings. It’s certainly not unreasonable to wish for another ten years of film music classics. Especially if you firmly promise not to grow up too much until then, in keeping with Disney spirit.
