Great Britain will deliver to Ukraine not only 14 Challenger-2 tanks, but also 100 armored vehicles, including FV-432 armored personnel carriers, also known as “Bulldog”, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace said on Monday.
The latest aid package for Ukraine is the largest during the Russia-Ukraine war, the minister said while addressing the parliament. The tanks will be delivered along with armored recovery and repair vehicles, and Ukraine will also receive eight AS90 self-propelled howitzers, 100,000 artillery shells, 100 advanced missiles, drones, spare parts for tanks and armored vehicles.
“Today’s package significantly increases Ukraine’s capabilities. It means it will be able to move from deterring Russian troops to driving them off Ukrainian soil,” Wallace said.
The minister confirmed that Great Britain will supply Challenger-2 tanks to Ukraine, thus becoming the first country to provide Kyiv with Western-style tanks.
At the same time, he expressed hope that other allies of Ukraine, including Finland and Poland, will be able to provide “Leopard-2” tanks to Ukrainian soldiers.
The British minister pointed out that in this matter everything depends on Germany, which developed and produced these tanks.
