Great Britain offers British citizenship to Hong Kong people BNN

Following the strengthening of Chinese rule in the former British colony of Hong Kong, London has offered three million East Asian metropolises the opportunity to settle in Britain, reports the British social media BBC.

On Tuesday, June 30, a law passed by the Hong Kong local authority came into force in Hong Kong, criminalizing cooperation with foreign or foreign forces, undermining the power and authority of China’s central government, and other violations. The law extends Hong Kong to China’s criminal justice system, said Johannes Chan, a law professor at the University of Hong Kong.

Britain believes that China has violated the 1985 Sino-British Joint Declaration by passing a law.

It stipulates that, 50 years after Hong Kong took over Chinese rule, Beijing must maintain a different system of civil rights and democratic rights and freedoms in the region.

In response, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that some three million Hong Kong people will be able to live in Britain for five years. After this period, Hong Kong people will have the right to apply for British citizenship, the British Prime Minister Johnson has told the BBC.
