Great Britain GP wants to run two races at Silverstone if needed NOW

The UK Grand Prix organization confirmed on Sunday that two consecutive races can be held at Silverstone this season if necessary. The proposal is currently being discussed with the Formula One Group.

“We have all kinds of ideas, including organizing two races in one weekend and two races in consecutive weekends. I am confident we can do that. We have a lot of experience and knowledge,” director Stuart Pringle told The Guardian.

Due to the corona crisis, Formula One Group, a subsidiary of Liberty Media, takes into account all scenarios, including finishing two races on the same track. In the case of the Grand Prix of Great Britain, that could be on July 19, when that race is scheduled.

“Formula 1 has worked very hard to find out the best solution for the World Cup. We have been asked if we could have one or two races and if they could take place behind closed doors. The answer is that this is absolutely can, “said Pringle.

Formula 1 is in a difficult situation

Formula 1 is in a difficult situation due to the corona crisis. The first nine Grands Prix have already been canceled due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, so that the season opening is only on June 28 in France. However, there is a good chance that that race cannot continue.

“I think Formula 1 will make a decision on the summer calendar in early May. They can’t roll this ball unless they have a solution that offers a realistic chance of having a respectable number of races during that period,” says Pringle.

Formula 1 director Ross Brawn recently announced that he thinks it is quite possible that the first Grand Prix of this season will be held in Europe. The Englishman does not exclude that in that case races will take place behind closed doors, such as at Silverstone.
