Gen. Carter stated that an escalation of regional tensions and errors of judgment could eventually lead to greater conflict. When asked if this meant there was a real threat of another world war, Carter replied, “I say there is such a risk and we must be aware of it.”
The military added that it is important to remember those who have died in previous wars and that this serves as a warning to those who may repeat mistakes from the past.
“If you forget the horrors of war, I think there is a risk that people may think it is wise to go to war,” warned the general.
