An agreement in the amount of 1.3 billion dollars has been signed between Great Britain and Turkey for the construction of a new high-speed railway line between the cities of Kayseri and Yerköy in central Turkey, Anadolu Agency and BTA reported.
On Friday, British Trade Secretary Kemmy Badenoch visited Istanbul and hailed the agreement as a “great testament” to the level of trade relations between the two countries.
Bedenoch said this is the third time Britain has worked with Turkey to secure the future of a sustainable large-scale transport project.
She noted that the new railway line will help Turkey expand its low-carbon rail network, stating, “(The line) will reduce congestion and reduce net carbon emissions on the Yerköy-Kayseri road by over 6,500 tons of carbon dioxide per year.”
The project will be implemented by Turkish companies, contractors of the Ankara-Sivas high-speed railway line.
Britain’s trade secretary said Turkey “presents a huge opportunity for British business” with its large economy and strategic location.
