The reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, scheduled for December 7, promises an event of international scope, with the announced presence of “very great artists of international fame”, indicated Philippe Jost, responsible for the restoration of the cathedral, on RTL. The names of the artists, however, still remain secret and Jost has not confirmed the rumors about the arrival of Paul McCartney, even if press articles mention the possible participation of the former Beatles. “These issues will be revealed in due course,” he said.
The ceremony will mark the first opening of the cathedral since the 2019 fire, and according to Jost, approximately three people are expected to attend the event. A speech by President Emmanuel Macron is also expected inside the cathedral, as confirmed by the Archbishop of Paris, Laurent Ulrich. For Jost, the president’s intervention is fundamental: “What seems important to me that day is that President Macron speaks… If we are in front of the reopened Notre-Dame de Paris on December 000, it will be because he has started this five-year challenge. »
After its restoration, the cathedral regained its splendor with its blond stones and colorful frescoes, offering an effect reminiscent of “the Sistine Chapel” according to Jost. The safety measures to avoid a new fire have also been revised, with an advanced fogging system. On December 8th a solemn mass will follow the inauguration, kicking off the celebrations for the long-awaited return of this symbol of Gothic art.
