The advertising expenditures of the Graz city government are being significantly reduced. There is also a change in advertisements.
The new Graz city government has been in office for almost six months. The alliance of the KPÖ, the Greens and the SPÖ is bringing about quite a few changes in the Styrian state capital. In this way, the left-wing alliance is restricting the budget to which they are entitled as governing parties.
Savings on the advertising budget
The Graz coalition therefore waived 160,000 euros for advertising expenses and the same amount was saved in the representation expenses in the town hall office of Mayor Elke Kahr. In addition, the city government no longer wants to place advertisements in district newspapers. Politicians should also no longer be shown in advertisements in city newspapers.
The holding company’s marketing budget will also be reduced. The transport network operator loses 625,000 euros (17 percent). The city government has meanwhile emphasized that they do not want to burden small clubs and organizers with the cuts, but for the “big ones” such as SK Sturm, GAK or the Graz 99ers ice hockey club, the financial situation could change as a result of the measures.
The two Graz football clubs in particular are watching the actions of the red-green-red government in the Styrian capital very closely. The two clubs are hoping for a two-stadium solution. Both clubs are currently housed in the Merkur Arena. In an interview with “Heute” in March, Kahr said that another stadium was not currently a top priority in the government.
