George Clooney has a name in Hollywood and around the world, mainly as a charismatic actor, but since 2002 he has regularly appeared as a capable director. He will present his skills in this direction again this year and this time in his biggest project so far. Epic science fiction Midnight sky (The Midnight Sky) is to combine influences from films such as Gravitation, Coming back a Interstellar.
Since the release visually captivating Gravitation in 2013, an interesting phenomenon can be observed, namely that ambitious high-budget sci-fi with a space theme is regularly being created in Hollywood. After Alfonso Cuarón very suggestively mediated our stay in the dark cold of space, we were able to gradually admire with our eyes and mind. Interstellar, Incoming, Martian or Ad Astra.
According to the trailer for the news from Netflix, it looks like this year it could join this list Midnight sky. It meets all the basic criteria for this: it is not a franchise film, it comes with an original concept of the genre, it has a rich budget and instead of phantasmagoric adventures it offers a believable concept. A creative team could also be a sure guarantee of serious and engaging art.
Clooney was inspired by Gravity while filming the novelty space scenes

George Clooney himself has direct experience with sophisticated space science fiction. In 2002, he appeared in an American adaptation Solaris from the prestigious director Steven Soderbergh and with a cosmonaut helmet on his head, we also saw him in the mentioned Gravity. Adaptation of a book template for the new film was then created by Mark L. Smith, who wrote the screenplay Returning.
Clooney also compares his latest directorial work to the demanding film, which was nominated for twelve Oscars. IN Midnight sky at the same time, he played the main character of a scientist in Antarctica who tries to warn the crew of a human spaceship against hitting Earth. There was a global catastrophe here and the astronauts may be one of the last survivors.
Although the premise seems very depressing, the trailer promises some optimism. Clooney’s astronomer Augustin, a respected scientist with minimal interest in others, will suddenly strive for the very survival of the human species. At this point, of course, parallels with Interstellarem from Christopher Nolan, where a small crew also leaves most of the dead planet in an effort to find a new home.
Original book Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Books-Dalton, according to the reactions of readers, excels especially in the deep characterization of the characters. Like the director and the actor, Clooney faces the challenge of telling a strong story of human perseverance in a way that emotionally engulfs the audience. If it does not let itself be captivated by the original attractions of audiovisual sci-fi, it has the potential to present a very engaging film.
