Graveman returns to Seattle after falling ill with COVID-19

Seattle Mariners reliever Kendall Graveman returned with the team after being on the disabled list due to a COVID-19 scare.

The 30-year-old right-hander, who had been out since May 23, was activated Friday before the Mariners began a three-game series against the Indians.

Graveman spent two weeks in quarantine in San Diego. Before being sidelined, he was one of the best relievers in the league. He had five saves and allowed no runs in 16 2/3 innings in 14 appearances.

Manager Scott Servais indicated that it will facilitate Graveman’s gradual return to the mound. He hasn’t pitched in a major league game since May 16 – against Cleveland – and only played a recovery game with Triple-A Tacoma on June 8.

The Mariners also activated right-hander Justin Dunn who had a shoulder injury to start Game 1 of the series. He was put on the disabled list on June 2 due to inflammation.

The relievers, Puerto Rican Yacksel Ríos, and Keynan Middleton were sent to Tacoma.
