In the rural areas of Ortaköy, Güldoruğu and Beşmayacı neighborhoods, grasshoppers appeared in the past years reappeared. Concerned by the flock of grasshoppers spreading over thousands of acres of land to damage the cultivated areas, the people of the neighborhood are trying to take action by spraying.
Mehmet Aycan, one of the farmers who sprayed, stated that locusts were also seen in the region last year.
Expressing that they want to protect their cultivated areas, Aycan used the following expressions:
“We are spraying 30 to 40 people with the back pump I bought from the District Directorate of Agriculture. Sometimes the municipal staff come and help, and sometimes we work as our peasants by our own means. This is not a job that can be done with the villagers. Grasshoppers appear in April and can be grazed in cultivated fields and animals until September. They’re hurting all the areas. We want this place to be sprayed by plane, it’s not something the villager can do. ”
Hayri Aycan stated that they have been struggling with grasshoppers for 5 years and their problems start again in this period every year.
Emphasizing that the grasshoppers have done great harm to them economically, Aycan said, “The people of the villages are dealing with animal husbandry, but we have started to have a livelihood due to the grasshopper infestation. they can damage the area. ” said.
