Grant Holloway, new Olympic champion in 110 meters hurdles

ParisAmerican Grant Holloway became the new Olympic champion in the 110-meter hurdles on Thursday after winning the final at the Paris 2024 Games, where Spaniard Enrique Llopis finished fourth.

Holloway (26 years old), reigning triple world champion in the 110-metre hurdles, won in Paris with a time of 12 seconds and 99 hundredths, ahead of his compatriot Daniel Roberts and Jamaican Rasheed Broadbell, both with a time of 13 seconds and 9 hundredths, but separated by three thousandths.

Quique Llopis, 23 years old and runner-up in the European Championship, was close to getting on the podium and finished fourth (13.20) in an exciting final in which he was close to winning an Olympic medal for Spain, eight years after Orlando Ortega’s silver.

For Holloway, this gold is a taste of revenge for the bitter Olympic silver in Tokyo 2020, when he was surprised in the final by Jamaican Hansle Parchment.

The latter, who narrowly qualified for the final, finished the race in last place (13.39).

Before the Paris Games, Holloway had surprised at the US Olympic Qualifying Championships in late June, running all three of her rounds under 13 seconds.

Known for his fast starts, he is also the current world indoor 60-meter champion.
