ROME (ITALPRESS) – As announced by Minister Lollobrigida on the occasion of the joint meeting between Cabina Regia Agri-food Controls and trade associations of the agricultural and pasta sector (which took place on 3 November), today the “Extraordinary campaign to control the durum wheat” through targeted checks on imports at the port of Bari. The control campaign takes place with the collaboration of the various Administrations that are part of the Control Room for agri-food controls of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry and sees the joint participation of the Quality Control and Fraud Repression Inspectorate Department, the Carabinieri (Carabinieri Commands for Agri-food Protection and Forestry Protection), the Financial Police, the Port Authorities and the Customs Agency. This is an extraordinary and wide-ranging control activity which includes checks aimed at imports of durum wheat arriving at the ports and entry points of our country, with checks aimed at the quality of the production and its traceability. The checks are also aimed at the entire food supply chain to verify the traceability of production, the quality and the correct indication of the origin.
In this regard, Minister Lollobrigida declared: “the establishment of the Control Room which includes the various components of our country’s control bodies operating in the agri-food sector is providing important results in terms of operations. The activation of the “extraordinary durum wheat supply chain control campaign” under the coordination of the Control Room demonstrates that it is possible to synergistically use the different professionalisms and skills expressed between the various control bodies, avoid useless and costly duplications of activities and guarantee to strengthen the system of defense of quality production, of Made in Italy and the protection of our consumers, while respecting the regular functioning of commercial activities”.
