Joel was born 33 years ago in Edmonton, Canada and eventually made it to the drummer of the Mason Rack Band. A not exactly unsuccessful band, because they also tour Europe. In Enschede he meets the love of his life: Noortje. Now, seven years later, they are the proud parents of son Finn – whom they are of course very eager to show the family in Canada.
But the past two years have not left them untouched. Noortje and Joel have had a rough time because of the premature birth of their son and that is why Robert receives a plea from Joel by email. “We got him with IVF, so it was quite a process. And then we were finally pregnant and then this happens,” explains Noortje when Robert visits them.

Partly due to the critical health of his father, there is a great need to ensure that Joel can still introduce his son to his father. As soon as Joel starts talking about his family, he shoots. His father suffers from prostate cancer and the doctors don’t give him much longer. He hopes his father and Finn can look at each other one last time.

Noortje and Joel stay in Canada for about two weeks, but it is hard for them to say goodbye because it will probably be the last time for Joel that he will see his father. “Every time I go back to the Netherlands I say to Noortje: ‘I don’t know if it will be the last time.’ But this will be the last time for… I think for Finn and Noortje. I think I’ll come again when… it’s my father’s last days. It’s very intense.”
Love Is In The Air can be seen every Wednesday at 9.30 pm on RTL 4.
