Singapore –
An 83-year-old grandmother dies from COVID-19 in Singapore. The case is the country’s 37th reported COVID-19 death.
As reported by Reuters, Sunday (25/7/2021) it is known that the elderly have not received vaccinations COVID-19, where the government has called for the elderly to be vaccinated because of the high risk of contracting it.
“Identified as case 64342, the Singaporean woman lives in Bukit Merah and is linked to cluster 121 Bukit Merah View,” said Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH).
The elderly had a fever and cough on June 16, but he did not immediately go to the health service. On June 18, he was taken to the Hospital and tested positive for COVID-19 the next day. He also has a history of hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
Not alone, there are two other women, aged 86 and 80 years, who are also included in the same cluster. The cluster was closed on 19 July.
On June 24, MOH’s Director of Health Services, Professor Kenneth Mak, said that more than half of the COVID-19 cases linked to markets and food centers were not vaccinated.
“Only about a third are fully vaccinated, and the vast majority of these cases are mild or asymptomatic,” he said.
“The virus can spread through clusters that use public facilities – including toilets – in markets and food centers,” said Prof Mak.
