Grandfather Arrested for Spreading Hoax Video of Demonstrators Being Stabbed by Officers

Grandfather initials R (59) from Bekasi City, had to face the police after spreading the video in the WatsApp group. Grandfather R distributed a video accompanied by a hoax narrative ‘demonstrators were stabbed by officers on Jalan Daan Mogot’.

The hoax video of ‘demonstrators being stabbed by officers’ was distributed by grandfather R on Thursday (10/8), coinciding with the moment of a labor demonstration in the Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta. Grandfather R himself admitted that he got the video from the WhatsApp group on his cell phone.

“The demonstration was stabbed by security forces on Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta today at 09.00 WIB. This demonstration comes from Tangsel who will carry out his speech in Jakarta. The b*****t who stabbed the savage PKI apparatus, must prepare a life weapon paid for with life.”

So Suspected and Detained

Director of the Criminal Investigation Unit for Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak said R’s grandfather was arrested on Friday (11/8/2023) in the morning. Grandpa R was arrested at his house in Permata Hijau Permai, Kaliabang, North Bekasi, Bekasi City.

“He has been named a suspect,” said Ade Safri, in his statement to journalists, Friday (11/8).

Grandfather R underwent a marathon examination after being named a suspect. The police also immediately arrested grandfather R for spreading the hoax video ‘demonstrators stabbed by officers’.

“He has been detained at Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center,” he added.

Grandpa’s Motive for Spreading Hoax Videos

Kombes Ade Safri revealed that grandfather R’s motive for spreading the hoax video was to provoke the masses of workers. The video that was distributed by Grandpa R coincided with the moment of a labor demonstration demanding the Job Creation Law be repealed, at the Horse Statue, Central Jakarta.

“That’s right, to provoke the mass demonstration which was held on August 10 yesterday in Jakarta,” said Ade Safri.
