RATH Telephone fraudsters who pretended to be fake police officers wanted to deprive an 89-year-old senior citizen from Rath of her savings. An employee of her house bank recognized the situation and called the police.
When an 89-year-old senior woman wanted to withdraw a five-digit amount in cash from a bank in Pempelfort on Friday, an employee at the counter became suspicious. When asked by the staff, the elderly woman revealed that she had been asked by the police to withdraw the money. The employee then immediately notified the police in Düsseldorf. The elderly woman did not collect the money, the so-called grandchildren’s trick failed.

According to initial investigations, the phone fraudsters tried to use a legend to put pressure on the Düsseldorf senior citizen. This seemed to be successful at first, since the woman went to her house bank in Pempelfort.
